Spearfish is a beautiful little town nestled at the edge of the northern
Black Hills. It is surrounded by National Forest on three sides giving it a
wealth of outdoor entertainment.
The D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery is a major attraction. It is one of the
oldest hatcheries in the United States. Tours of the hatchery and the D.C. Booth

their natural habitat. Beautiful Spearfish City Park is adjacent with its
Project Playland for children.
Spearfish Canyon, which is much older the the Grand Canyon, is a beautiful drive
during any season. There are numerous hikes in the area and Roughlock Falls is a
favorite picnic area.
Other attractions include the High Plains Heritage Museum, Matthew’s Opera House
(live productions May through December) and The Spirit of the Hills Wildlife
sanctuary, with both local and exotic wildlife.
Spearfish also has two bowling alleys, eight ball fields, an 18 hole golf
course, 24 horseshoe courts, seven tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, an
outdoor ice skating rink, and nine city parks. The indoor movie theater has six
screens, including two with stadium-style seating. There is a Wal-Mart, K-Mart,
